Hey Keith in here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at, showing you how to install the Pewag Brenta-C Diamond Pattern snow tire chains on our 2021 Mazda CX-5. This is gonna be on a tire size 225/65 17. Make sure you check the fit guide on etrailer.com to get the best fit for your tire. Also, we have it on the front axle as per the owner's manual. Always double-check to make sure you're putting it on the right axle for your car.
These chains are going to be useful for if you live in an area that gets a decent amount of moderate snow and maybe some light ice on occasion. They're gonna be made of a Diamond Pattern construction, so they get a lot of coverage on your vehicle. They're gonna be really helpful for when you're turning and you're not gonna feel 'em as much when you're starting stopping as a Ladder Pattern chain. They are made of a titanium alloy construction as well. So they're going to last for a good amount of time and be durable and hold up to rust and weather and corrosion more than a low carbon steel would.
You can see that going across they are Square Links, which are going to help get you that bite into that ice and snow that I mentioned. As well as the fact that they are grooved, which just gives you a little bit more surface area and a little bit more bite as well. Coming to the front, you can see that these chains are a different color. It's because they have a powder coat finish. Not only to protect your hands when you're installing them but also going across your rims or if they make contact, they'll do a little bit of a better job protecting those as well.
Here you can see that assisted tensioning cable that's built in so you don't have to buy a tensioner separate to keep the tension in your chains while you're moving. The chains do come two to a set and this hard, protective (hand knocking) outer shell. So if we pop it open you can see comes with also your instructions and you have a few additional spare parts in case things break or come loose. Your second pair is right in there as well. So I think it's gonna do a great job of holding your chains and keeping them secure and safe in the weather.
As far as the installation goes, it's one of my favorite features of these chains. It's really easy to do. You don't have to get down and around but we always recommend trying it out in your garage beforehand just to make sure that you know what you're doing before you find yourself stranded on the side of the road. You can check out how we did it right now. First thing we like to do is lay the chains out flat. We just wanna make sure that nothing is caught up or twisted or tangled. This assisted tensioning cable tends to get stuck around things, so make sure that that's out. We also wanna make sure that the chains are facing the right direction. So we usually like to do that by looking at these hoops at the end of each set of links. If the flat side is facing up, probably good to go. We just wanna make sure that these pointed parts aren't making contact with the tread of our tire. Once we have this gap established in the middle, that's where the tire's gonna go. We can start the process by feeding one set of chains (chains scraping) around the back of our tire. You're just trying to make sure that that gap finds its way back to the middle and pulling the rest of the chains through (chains scraping) on the other side. Now we'll make our first connection. We'll grab one of each set around the side here, bring them up behind the tire and we'll just fit this hook into this eyelet on the other side. Just like that. And then we'll drape the rest of the chains through. Trying to make sure that they spread themselves out evenly. (chains rattling) And we can make our next connection, being this red hook, into these loose red links on the other side. Just like that. Again, adjusting as we go. Then we'll come down to the bottom here. Make our last connection. That being that assisted tension cable. Just pull it through, tighten it up as much as we can. (chain rubbing on glove) And then we'll go use these red hooks, fit the cable through there and pull it as far to the other side as you can. Making sure that hook is facing out again to get that tension into the chains. Be a little bit tough to get that angle. There we go. Once you do, they're all ready to go. Once you have these chains set up make sure you get them
