President and CEO of the National Endowment for Democracy Damon Wilson opened the 2024 NED Democracy Awards with welcome remarks. “Today’s challenges mean we must work in common cause to go on offense to renew democracy… In the face of these evolving challenges, NED remains laser-focused on our singular mission of supporting freedom, helping ordinary people doing extraordinary things.”
NED paid tribute to courageous partners from Sudan, Tibet, and Ukraine at the 2024 Democracy Awards on Thursday, June 13, 2024. The evening event at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce also included a presentation of NED’s Democracy Service Medals recognizing Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, and democracy leaders from Russia, Tibet, and Belarus. The program featured a special tribute to the people of Venezuela. Guests included democracy advocates and supporters from around the world, representatives from Congress and the administration, and members of the media. #DemocracyAwards
The National Endowment for Democracy is a private, nonprofit foundation dedicated to the growth and strengthening of democratic institutions around the world.
