Edward Linley Sambourne, the chief cartoonist at Punch magazine in 1906, was also an avid amateur photographer, using his hobby to help with his cartoon figure drawings. His photographs of young women taken around 1905-1907, using a concealed camera, offer a fascinating glimpse into the natural posture and clothing of women in Kensington and west London at the time, breaking away from the stiff and posed pictures of the Edwardian era. These photographs, available on the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Library Time Machine blog, provide a unique insight into the everyday life of Edwardian women and can be further explored at Sambourne's house at 18 Stafford Terrace, open to the public.
