Angela Merkel's reputation "should be shattered" amid Germany's dependency on Russia for energy, former US President Donald Trump says.
Mr Trump made the remarks in an interview with Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan.
Discussing the issue of energy, Mr Morgan said the former chancellor of Germany’s reputation was "getting shattered" every day the conflict in Europe rages on.
"It should be shattered," Mr Trump said.
Mr Trump recounted one of the discussions he had with Ms Merkel in which he warned her she would someday have a “problem” with Russia that would leave “no choice but to surrender".
"I sent her the white flag of surrender,” he said.
“I had it brought right over to her at a different table, I said it's the white flag of surrender.
“She said ‘but what do you mean?’ I said you are dependent on Russia for energy."
