1985: And It's Only $3 A Month!
WTVJ Consumer affairs and technology reporter Alan Mendelson gets a look at banking-by-phone, a time-and-money-saving innovation of the gas-short 1970s coming back to phone lines near you in the tech-obsessed mid-1980s.
Southeast Bank, which no longer exists, offered banking by phone for just three dollars a month -- about the cost of fourteen postage stamps, Mendelson notes helpfully.
Not only does this story offer a glimpse of early in-home computing, but also copious footage of what Florida Power & Light bills looked like thirty years ago -- and we're sure you're just dying to see that!
