In my opinion, the WoW private server, Turtle WoW, is a throwback to the Original Vanilla World of Warcraft. This video extends to Classic Era more broadly, as I contend that leveling was a more fulfilling experience.

Granted Classic World of Warcraft was/is a time-sink, it does not cater to people that are very casual, but I argue that Classic doesn't take advantage of quirks of human psychology to keep us invested - every other quest there's an achievement, or coloured reward in Retail - Retail gives the experience of taking a naughty drug (to me). Back in the day the dopamine infusion was a slow-drip.

I also don't believe this is a rose-tinted view - I've been playing Turtle WoW for several months now and I've continued to gain credence in my view. Personally, I would rather log on once per week to a character that quests in a World like we had in Classic rather than what we have now in Retail. I have much more to say - but perhaps that'll be for another video!

My last thought to summarise: Retail questing feels like it "plays me", where as Classic questing feels like I am playing.
