St Etheldredas church, one of the oldest Catholic Churches in London. It’s a superb church for a wedding, despite having the reputation for one of the darkest churches to photograph in. But with todays modern cameras and lenses, that doesn’t pose a problem, but adds atmosphere to the photography. So I was really looking forward to Georgie and Will’s winter wedding at St Etheldredas, especially as their reception was to be held beneath the church. An Historic London Church
St Etheldredas started out as the chapel for the London residence of the Bishops of Ely, and dates back to the 13th Century. Since then it’s changed hands between the Catholic Church and the Church of England, before being purchased by the Roman Catholic church in 1874. Today it’s used for masses, baptisms, weddings and funerals. The Crypt beneath the church is the prefect place to celebrate after the ceremony. Over the last 600 years, it’s hosted many parties and celebrations, including Kin Henry VIII’s three day wedding feast in 1531! Today, The Bleeding Heart restaurant hosts superb wedding parties there.
Documentary Wedding Photography at The Crypt
This is the perfect setting for my style of natural documentary wedding photography. Nothing is posed or contrived. The photography aims to transport you right back to your wedding day for many years to come, with the emphasis being on documenting the day naturally as it occurs.
