This is our trip to Hikurangi, a settlement in Northland Region and home to Waro Limestone Scenic Reserve. The bizarre rock formations and man-made Lake Waro are the main drawcards of this nature and conservation hideaway. Rainwater sculpted the soluble limestone rocks over time, creating these ghostly outcrops. The artificial lake, on the other hand, was formed after the old coal mine was closed, filling the pit with surface and groundwater runoff. Overall, the experience was worth all the trip.
