Filmmakers rarely give audiences loving, affectionate moments between mothers and daughters. Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (2002), based on novels by Rebecca Wells (screenplay by Callie Khouri), includes much love, congeniality and affection between female characters. In this scene Ashley Judd goes to some trouble to make it possible for her daughter to go on her first airplane ride. Although the inclusion of such a moment between a mother and daughter might not sound like anything to get excited over it is actually a rare occurrence in film. Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood scores very well for females’ presence and voice.
