Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Add two levels of subtotals in Excel.
Welcome to episode 2563b of Excel Tricks! In this video, we will be learning how to add two levels of subtotals in just a few seconds. This may seem like a tricky task, but with the right steps, you'll be able to do it with ease.
First, it's important to note that when adding two levels of subtotals, you need to be careful with the sorting. Make sure to sort by Region first and then by Product. This will ensure that the subtotals are added correctly.
Next, click on the Subtotal button and make sure to add the subtotal to the leftmost column first. This is important because of a bug where certain regions and products may be grouped together incorrectly. Then, select each change in Region, Sales, Cost, and Profit and click OK.
Now, we will add the second level of subtotals. Click on the Subtotal button again, but this time, uncheck the box that says "Replace Current Subtotals". This will ensure that the subtotals are added to the existing ones, rather than replacing them.
After clicking OK, you will notice that there are now four group and outline buttons instead of three. The number 3 represents each product within each region, the number 2 represents the region totals, and the number 1 represents the grand total. The fourth button represents everything else.
To make this work effectively, it's important to have the data properly sorted. Always start with the outer level first and then add the inner level. And that's it! You now know how to add two levels of subtotals in just a few seconds. If you found this video helpful, be sure to check out my group lessons and other videos on TL.Page/MrExcel. Thanks for watching!
