Ankle fractures are among the most common fractures. Dislocated ankle fractures and injuries involving the syndesmotic complex are usually treated surgically to restore the integrity of the ankle joint. Open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) using plate and screws is an established standard practiced. Older age and comorbidities can lead to higher rates of complications ranging (7-13%). Closed reduction with fibular nail fixation is an alternative minimally invasive treatment option for some ankle fractures and provides less frequent complication rates and the immediate possibility of full weightbearing postoperatively. #brokenankles
