Terrific Clos de Vougeot 1996 from Domaine Prieure Roch.
This was a wonderful mature pinot noir that was a real joy to drink..

Inspired by his grand-father, Henry Leroy, legendary founder of the Maison Leroy firm who became in 1942 co-owner of the Domaine de la Roman e-Conti, Henry-Fr d ric Roch seeks to make the purest and most natural expression possible of the Pinot Noir grape from great vineyard sites. Domaine Prieur Roch's main appellation is Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru with 0.69ha in the Clos des Argilli res and 5.21ha in the Clos des Corv es Monopoly. Since 2010, the Domaine has had a foot in the C te de Beaune with 2.16ha of Ladoix Village (red and white). The Domaine also owns small parcels of vines elsewhere in the C te de Nuits, including the minuscule Clos Goillotte (0.55 ha), Les Hautes-Maizi res (0.63ha) and Les Suchots (1.02ha) in Vosne-Roman e, as well as some appellations class es grands crus, in particular 0.623ha in Clos de Vougeot just below the ch teau, and 1.01ha of Chambertin Clos de B ze.
Farming is strictly organic using compost and regular ploughing and hoeing. Yields are very low for the region, and the harvested grapes, picked at the optimal stage of health and ripeness, are carefully sorted before being fermented by whole bunches with stems intact. The wines are made in the cellars at Nuits-Saint-Georges, but using grapes from the best areas in Burgundy: Vosne-Roman e, Clos de Vougeot, Chambertin Clos de B ze Since 1995 Henry Fr d ric Roch has also owned a monopoly of the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Corv es.
The wines of Prieur Roch are in general light in colour in order to emphasize perfume and delicate textures. The style of Prieur Roch is indeed one of great sensuality with a bouquet bursting with fruit and floral aromas.
