40% of the world -- or more than 85 countries -- will not have widespread access to vaccines until 2023. A new study has revealed that many rich nations have snapped up more vaccines than they need. Delays in production and delivery to richer countries may push back distribution dates for poorer nations. Global vaccine sharing scheme COVAX has said that 1.8 billion doses will be supplied to 92 poorer countries, but that only covers 27% of the population in those nations.
