"I think it's an unparalleled scandal that our democratic rights are being restricted in this way, that we are being allowed to hold a rally here in the ditch, so to speak, with only 50 people. We have already had to take this to court. I find it outrageous to even have 18,000 police to support these gentlemen."

11. SOUNDBITE (German) Jorg Naumann, 67-year-old protester:
"My biggest concern about this summit is that talks are taking place here to escalate the war in Ukraine to the point where NATO intervenes there with weapons and it can then come to a world war. I think this is the most dangerous situation we have had since the Second World War and that's why I also want to protest."

STORYLINE:
A small group of protesters held a bike demonstration to protest against the annual gathering of the Group of Seven (G-7) leading economic powers.
The protesters cycled from the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen towards the secluded Schloss Elmau luxury hotel, located in the picturesque Bavarian alps, where the G-7 leaders are meeting.
Police then only allowed 50 demonstrators to be shuttled near the castle for a final rally.
"I think it's an unparalleled scandal that our democratic rights are being restricted in this way, that we are being allowed to hold a rally here in the ditch, so to speak, with only 50 people," said Jorg Naumann, one of the protesters attending. "I find it outrageous to even have 18,000 police to support these gentlemen."
Protesters were allowed approximately 30 minutes to stage their demonstration.
Some laid on the ground to try continue the demonstration but where carried away by the police.
The G-7 leaders meanwhile held a session on Monday with a focus on Ukraine.
They were also joined by the leaders of five democratic emerging economies — India, Indonesia, South Africa, Senegal and Argentina — for a discussion on climate change, energy and other issues.
