There’s nothing worse than a dye-job gone wrong. We’ve all dyed our hair at home and felt horrified by the colour we’ve been left with when the job is done. If you’re in that situation right now, don’t panic! There’s an easy solution for helping to fade most semi-permanent hair colours: baking soda.
In this video, we’ll be sharing the most effective baking soda recipes, many of which also contain shampoo, that will quickly strip the unwanted colour from your hair. Grab your ingredients and let’s get started!
1. Baking soda simple wash
Baking soda and vinegar are excellent cleansing agents. While this mix is likely to dry out your hair a little, it will also help fade your hair colour to a certain extent.
For this simple, effective baking soda wash, you’ll need:
• 2 tablespoons Baking Soda
• 1 and a half cups of Water
• 1 tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar
• 5 drops of Fragrant Essential Oil (whichever you prefer)
This one takes 2 minutes to prep and 10 minutes to carry out.
Start by combining 2 tablespoons of baking soda with half a cup of water. Then wet your hair and apply this mixture to it. Work the mixture into your hair and leave it in for about 10 minutes, and rinse your hair with water.
Now you’re ready to move onto the next stage of the process. Combine the vinegar, water, and essential oil in a jug and pour it through your hair as a final rinse. Don’t rinse your hair any further after this. You can use this remedy for up to 4 consecutive days to remove semi-permanent dye from your hair.
2. Dish soap and baking soda method
This method effectively fades semi-permanent hair colour. The dish washing soap’s harsh detergents will considerably strip colour after the first wash.
For this method, you’ll need:
• 3 tablespoons of Baking Soda
• 4 tablespoons of Anti-Dandruff Shampoo of your choice
• 1 tablespoons of Dish Washing Soap
• A Shower Cap or Plastic Bag
It takes 2 minutes to prep for this remedy, and 20 minutes to carry it out.
First, combine all the ingredients in a bowl until you get a smooth mixture. You can then go ahead and apply the mixture onto dry hair until it’s completely saturated. Cover your hair with a shower cap or a plastic bag and leave the mixture on for about 20 minutes, then wash your hair with warm water. Follow with your usual conditioning routine. You can use this remedy for up to 3 consecutive days to remove hair dye.
3. Baking soda and shampoo wash
Anti-dandruff shampoos have strong clarifying properties which will help strip the colour from your hair. In combination with baking soda, this shampoo will remove a considerable amount of colour without causing as much damage as bleach would.
For this super simple remedy, you’ll need two common ingredients:
• 1 tablespoon of Baking Soda
• 1 tablespoon of Anti-Dandruff Shampoo
Once more, it takes 2 minutes to prep this remedy, and 20 minutes to carry it out.
To begin, take a bowl and combine the baking soda with a strong anti-dandruff shampoo. Next, dampen your hair with hot water and then shampoo your hair with the baking soda mixture. Leave the mixture on for about 20 minutes before washing off with warm water. Finish by conditioning your hair well. You can use this remedy for up to 4 consecutive days to remove unwanted hair dye.
