On the 26th April 1956 an invention by transport entrepreneur Malcom McLean revolutionized the logistics industry when 58 metal boxes set sail from Newark to Houston. It was...the shipping container.
The standardization of the specification of theses boxes allow for cargoes to be transported from anywhere to anywhere, between ships, terminals, and trucks more efficiently. Getting all these complex pieces in the entire ecosystem to click took an enormous amount of persistence and hard work. And the impact, as we now know, was a complete revolution to global trade.
