Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told the U.N. Security Council that the U.S. would be pursuing a new strategy for North Korea and its growing nuclear program, including new sanctions against the DPRK and countries that enable its nuclear ambitions. Secretary Tillerson’s statement came as he chaired the final meeting of the Security Council under the U.S.'s April 2017 presidency, and as U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres delivered his report on nuclear non-proliferation efforts in North Korea. While many U.S. allies agreed with Secretary Tillerson’s call for a tougher global stance against North Korea and its leaders, some nations like China, Bolivia, and Russia warned against U.S. military aggression in and around the Korean peninsula.
