The United Nations (UN) Security Council is to meet in an emergency session to discuss the Myanmar coup. But ahead of the meeting, Beijing has already indicated that the international response must not further inflame tensions. Chinese state media has downplayed the detention of Aung San Suu Kyi and other leaders, with Xinhua news agency describing the development as a "major cabinet reshuffle". Meanwhile, Japan has urged for democracy to be restored, and South Korea has called for the immediate release of Ms Suu Kyi.
