PGIMER Director Dr. Vivek Lal received two complaints within three months, one from a woman patient from Punjab and the other from senior residents in the Urology Department. The recent complaint was filed by the female patient against an assistant professor, who she alleged conducted her check-up in a locked room without a female attendant present.
According to a recent Indian Express report, a female patient alleged inappropriate touching by an assistant professor at PGIMER, prompting Director Dr. Vivek Lal to form a high-powered committee for investigation. The patient provided her statement on September 27.
Additionally, senior residents from the Urology Department filed a complaint in June, claiming intimidation and harassment by a professor, who allegedly made demeaning remarks, threatened to take academic penalties, fail them in final exams and cancel their leaves and created a hostile environment. Dr. Lal stated that all stakeholder statements have been recorded, and efforts are underway to find an amicable solution.
