Israel reportedly attempted to assassinate Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on 31 July using an improvised explosive device placed in his guesthouse room. Channel 12 revealed that Haniyeh narrowly escaped due to a faulty air conditioning unit that led him to leave the room temporarily. The explosive, detonated at 1:30 a.m., blew a hole through the wall but failed to harm him. The operation was complicated by Haniyeh’s high-level IRGC security detail and his frequent stays at the Sa’adat Abad guesthouse in northern Tehran. Meanwhile, Israel plans to submit a UN report detailing severe abuse of hostages by Hamas during captivity in Gaza, including accounts of physical, psychological and sexual torture. The report highlights the plight of over 100 hostages treated by medical teams, with many alleging deliberate starvation and inhumane conditions. Families of hostages continue to call for urgent ceasefire deals to secure their release.
