A new generation of composers is introduced by Paweł Mykietyn. He graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw in 1997, although his composition “3 for 13” had already been placed first at the UNESCO International Rostrum of Composers in Paris two years earlier. In 2011 Mykietyn was honoured with the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for outstanding achievements in national culture and the international promotion of Polish art. Written in 1992, the Four Preludes (Cztery Preludia) are in fact quite short and complex pieces, exposing the natural possibilities of the modern piano using the traditional methods and knowledge of overtones. Each of the Preludes is strongly contrasted within the frame of its own structure as well as with the consecutive movement. It is a journey of styles. The first prelude explores minimalism, the second, imitation. In the third movement the listener experiences the parallel leading of three independent harmonic and melodic plans, whilst the final one surprises with reverberating overtones and a sonoric exploration of colours.
