David Benavidez relentlessly pummeled J’Leon Love on Saturday night. The powerful super middleweight delivered a barrage of brutal punches, dominating Love for over four minutes until referee Laurence Cole intervened to halt their scheduled 10-round bout. Despite never hitting the canvas, Love endured a relentless onslaught from Benavidez, who unleashed a series of devastating blows, including an overhand right that severely rocked Love early in the second round. Benavidez pressed his advantage, landing multiple power shots on Love before Cole stepped in to stop the fight at 1:14 of the second round. Love, hailing from Detroit, suffered only his second knockout defeat in his eight-year professional career, slipping to a record of 24-3-1 (13 KOs, 1 NC).
Benavidez's triumph served as the co-featured bout preceding the FOX Sports Pay-Per-View broadcast of the Errol Spence Jr.-Mikey Garcia welterweight championship match at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. The 22-year-old Benavidez (21-0, 18 KOs) made his return to the ring after nearly 13 months, having last fought in February 2018 when he defeated Ronald Gavril via unanimous decision in their 168-pound championship rematch in Las Vegas.
