So, I'm thinking about a time when I might be able to play music live again and trying to get a set ready for it. Let me know in the comments where you think this piece has strengths and weaknesses for a live set please! I'm looking for critical feedback so bring it!
Here are some notes about how I built up this piece:
I went back over the tracks I've made in the last 3 or 4 months and listened for samples I thought might be useful. Grabbed chunks and loaded them into the Digitakt. Many were of sounds I designed using tape and effects.
I'm thinking I'd love to share samples someday via Patreon. I'd love to hear if this is something you all are interested in! I have a growing library of samples that I've made.
Anyway, as ever, I try to keep my choices minimal, so for the first pattern I just picked 8 samples (including a small amount of drum samples from Samples from Mars, their vintage drum machines are just too good). I used those for that pattern and then only added a few different samples for pattern two, and again into pattern three. Just making small tweaks to existing sounds as each pattern changed and occasionally swapping out a few samples.
Again, if anyone is interested in a track walkthrough explaining the process more, I'm happy to do that in an upcoming vid, just let me know!
As always if you want to support me, follow me here, listen and follow on Spotify or buy something from me on Bandcamp!
