In June 2019 I conducted a survey of tributaries flowing into the Nyong River, Cameroon.
The timing of the survey coincided with the "small" rainfall season, whereby river volumes were observed to be elevated. Areas where the survey focused included flowing streams under gallery riparian forest.
Watercourses were alluvium controlled. Substrates were frequently gravel and sand with less frequent areas with cascades over bedrock and associated boulders. In-stream and marginal vegetation included dense stands of both inundated and exposed Anubias sp.
Observed fish species diversity was low due to the high water levels observed. Bryconalestes longipinnis was the most frequently observed fish during the survey. Amphilidae species were also found in the cascade habitats.
Nothobranchiidae were observed in the slower waters, these included Chromaphyosemion loennbergii and Epiplatys zenkeri.
The bio-accoustic recording was obtained in secondary littoral forest on the northern bank of the Sanaga River.
