The CALIPRI from Nextsense can measure all kinds of gap and flush - even gaps that are hidden. The key to maintaining full precision and repeatability is in not using any mathematical extrapolation or "guesswork". During setup of the measurement plan, and for the first time only, each side of the gap is scanned so that the CALIPRI has a pre-recording of the shape to expect on each side. Then, even when the gap is covered, the CALIPRI recognises the beginning of the shape on each side and can then overlay what it knows about the rest of the shape on top. This gives a very repeatable and accurate measurement.
