Yes I know it looks like a C74, It's the hard top body swapped on to the new C74-1 coil sprung and four link chassis, and what an awesome chassis it is!
Here it is having a run around the new Crawler World West Sussex, the UK's largest all weather RC crawling facility. Designed to suit much larger 1/10 models of full size vehicles the little WPL did itself proud, with a little help along from some WPL upgrades and slight tweaks.
A couple of modifications were made to the chassis to get the best from the new suspension, removing some protrusions in the chassis plastics that limited the suspension travel a little, and removing a front spring hanger to give a little more space for the servo steering link.
Both these design features are hangovers from these parts originally being designed to suit the leaf sprung C74. What that gains in scale authenticity and dynamics, this new suspension gains in performance.
It has also been built with the WPL metal axle kit, a great way to add durability and steering angle, but the biggest advantage it brings is low down weight shifting the center of gravity in the right direction. This axle kit is now supplied from WPL with slightly longer shafts specifically to suit the C74/74-1 wheelbase.
This is further enhanced by some lead strip being used inside the wheels for a further increase in low down mass.
Controlling the movement of the weighted drive train are the new WPL oil filled dampers. These are an excellent sealed cartridge design that offer mess free assembly and nearly as much articulation as the stock friction dampers. These are now a must have addition to my WPL builds.
This great articulation is gained through completely stock suspension parts - aside from those new dampers - the WPL is supplied with ball joint linkages and supple springs, putting it streets, or rather, trails ahead of the opposition.
The stock drive train has a 370 motor mounted to a counter rotating gearbox so even with those soft springs witb light damping the body torque twist is kept to the minimum and the suspension movement can shine.
The wheels on this one are my own 3D printed design - files linked below. These are made to a true scale 15" size and have the excellent INJORA Clingon tyres in 1.3 size stretched around them.
