NASA’s Balloon-Borne Cryogenic Telescope Testbed, or BOBCAT mission, launched from Fort Sumner, New Mexico at 9:59 a.m. EDT, Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019. The mission floated for a total of 8 hours.
This technology demonstration could one day help researchers improve the sensitivity of observations in the far-infrared universe, which is a wavelength commonly used to study black holes, nebulas and the formation of new solar systems.
