Hey, it's Ethan here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install these Glacier cable snow tire chains on our 2022 Chrysler Pacifica. These are gonna be on tire size 235 60 R18. Make sure you check the fit guide at etrailer.com. Put in your year, make, model, find the right chains for your tire size. Also, we have them on the front axle as per the owner's manual.
Also, double check that, making sure that you're putting the chains on the right axle for your car. These are going to be sort of an emergency case only set of chains, partially because of the overall build quality and the fit, but just kind of the design in general. If you live in an area where you get just very infrequent snow maybe every once in a while or you're passing through or live in an area where you're legally required to have chains in your car, these are gonna be that option for you. They are a ladder pattern design, which means they go straight across the tire parallel to one another. That usually helps with starting and stopping, but you typically feel that a lot more than your diamond pattern style chains.
But in the case of these rollers, they are designed so that you keep a low profile so you don't feel these as much while you driving. One benefit of using these chains, though, is that we do have limited wheel well clearance here on our Pacifica and these chains do meet Class S compatibility standards, which means basically they're cleared to not make contact with any sort of struts or suspension. and in the case of our Pacifica, they don't, which is a nice feature of these chains. Partially, again, because of those low profile rollers. which are made of a low carbon steel, which is unfortunately another drawback of the chains.
That low carbon seal isn't going to last and hold up to as many seasons as an alloy chain would. The chains do come two a set in this really lightweight plastic bag. Roller chains like these are notoriously difficult to roll back up and get back in here, so as they arrive in this, that's fine, but rolling these back up and keeping them in here is gonna be a real pain, so we recommend if you do get these chains upgrading to something larger or more durable to keep them in. Also, look at these closer in the install, but we do recommend picking up a rubber tensioner as well, just to get that initial fit, and there's no tensioning built into the chains other than those connection points, which don't really have any there either. So if you do get these chains, we'd recommend picking up one of these rubber tensioners too.
just to make sure that everything is in place and you get that initial fit down really well. Overall, the installation process of these chains can be a little bit difficult. not necessarily difficult, more so just annoying, 'cause if you don't want to get underneath your car 'cause there's limited clearance, you're gonna have to roll onto these chains. Either way, doing it out in the snow is gonna be kind of a hassle, but you can check out how we did it right now. To install the chains, the first thing we like to do is just lay them out flat. We wanna make sure that everything's there, nothing's caught up, twisted, or tangled. In the case of these chains, it doesn't necessarily matter which way they face, from side to side 'cause there's nothing to tension the chains up once we get 'em there, but we do wanna make sure that they're facing the right way up and down. You do that by taking these large hoops at the end of each side of these cables. We wanna make sure that we have this flat side. It even says on there, tire side, if you're able to see that. Just obviously a good indicator of which way we're gonna face, 'cause we just don't want this hook where that connection point occurs to be on the tread of our tire, so once we have it like that, we'll get the chains on our tire. Now we'll just grab towards the back in the middle here and we'll drape these carefully over our tire. We have pretty limited wheel well clearance here so I'm just gonna go slow to make sure I'm not scratching up the inside or the exterior of the vehicle. Once we have everything sort of in place and roughly centered up, I'm gonna go to the back side and make our first connection there. From the back connection, I'm actually making it from the front side. So, we don't have a left clearance for me to get my full body un
