A video showing the fault being water under pressure escaping from a crack in the plastic housing of the Vacuum box / EGR Cooler on the EGR valve assembly. Part number for the replacement I bought and some hints on how to fit it correctly. Total cost £35 compared to main stealer's £240 quote.
I'm not a professional mechanic, only a hobbyist, so this video is for information only and if you're not confident or competent take your vehicle to a trained and skilled mechanic. I'd hate it if you damaged your car worse than the original fault.
Notes:
The intro is a bit blurred but it was late at night and I didn't redo it, there's a bit of the video where I had the gopro in its waterproof housing so volume was low, I've amplified it as much as I dare but don't turn the volume up too much as when it gets to a noisy bit you'll jump...
EGR is Exhaust Gas Re-circulation. The faulty part is a plastic housing that develops a crack in it allowing the water to escape instead of cooling down the exhaust gas before it goes back into the engine, via a heat exchange process..
Have fun.
