The mother of a missing Fayette County toddler was arrested Sunday.
According to the 24th District Attorney's Office, Wendy Pamela Bailey was charged with abuse of a corpse, first-degree domestic violence, aggravated child abuse, and criminally negligent homicide.
The district attorney's office and Fayette County Sheriff's Office said based on the results of the investigation, it is believed that one-year-old Kahleb Collins has been dead for several months.
Authorities said the body has not been recovered, although law enforcement teams are still actively gathering information and searching for his remains.

The child's disappearance was brought to the attention of authorities December 8 after a single-vehicle crash claimed the lives of his father, Steven Bradley Collins, and two-year-old sister, Ryleigh Collins.

Kahleb's mother, Wendy, was also injured in the crash and hospitalized.

Authorities said the criminally negligent homicide charge is related to the death of Ryleigh, who was unrestrained in the vehicle Steven Collins was driving in the fatal crash.

Bailey was booked into the Fayette County Jail and is awaiting a bond hearing.

“This investigation has been particularly challenging as it involved the tragic deaths of two young children,” 24th Judicial Circuit District Attorney Andy Hamlin said. “I want to commend the efforts and cooperation shown by every agency involved: the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Alabama State Troopers.”

Authorities said the case remains under investigation, with further charges against Bailey possible.
