Dr. David T. Watson: My name is David Watson. I’m an orthopedic surgeon and I practice orthopedics with Florida Orthopaedic Institute in Tampa, Florida. I have several areas of expertise. I did separate years of fellowship training. I did a year of trauma fellowship training, which is the management of complex fractures and dislocations. Then, I did a year of adult reconstructive training, so I specialize in the treatment of fractures, complex fractures, non-unions, as well as hip and knee reconstruction, and hip preservation surgery. When I was a third-year medical student, I rotated with a doctor by the name of Ross Leighton. He’s an orthopedic surgeon in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and in over that month and a half that I spent with him, I realized just how wonderful the impact that orthopedic surgery, when done well, can have on a patient. It certainly is challenging, there is no doubt about that. I am relatively busy being a doctor, so the times when I am not working are generally (01:00) spent with my family. I have a wife and three lovely children. Hip reconstruction is an absolutely fantastic surgery in terms of returning quality of life, and if you can take them to the point where they have no pain and are able to do the things that they not just need to do, but they want to do, to enjoy life, is very, very satisfying.
