Vaclav Smil is a Czech-Canadian interdisciplinary scholar and author who is widely recognized for his expertise in energy systems, environmental and population change, food production, and globalization. He has written over 40 books and hundreds of articles on these subjects and has received numerous awards for his work. Smil is currently a distinguished professor emeritus at the University of Manitoba.
