WHAT IS THIS VIDEO ABOUT:
Things I don't buy anymore:
Рhysical paper books.
I don't need them anymore. There is kindle, which is much more convenient. Or audiobooks - I listen to them a lot on my phone.
Souvenirs from a foreign country.
You travel somewhere, have a great time, and want to take back with you a part of this lovely country. But why? You have millions of photos already. Why do you also need some crapy low-quality mug or a fridge magnet? It's bad taste, and in reality, you will never place it anywhere in your house in most cases. Mmm, I'm sorry if you ACTUALLY stuck them at home. My apologies.
Plastic bags.
I try not to take them from a shop. I would instead bring a dedicated grocery bag or just throw things in my bag pack. Sometimes I go to a pharmacy, and they just give me a little plastic bag with my alcohol addiction pills and a receipt inside of the bag. What's the point? I'm not ashamed of my medications because I'm Russian. I would rather proudly carry it around.
By the way, it's a pity that there are still plastic bags everywhere in so much developed and advanced Singapore. I hope the government will do something about it. Or at least put an extra high tax on it. Please.
Suits and formal shirts.
Thank god I'm not on a corporate job anymore. I like to dress up to go out once a week or so, but not every day, no thanks! Esp in Singapore - my favorite fancy look is shirts, t-shirt, and slippers. That's it!
Water in plastic bottles.
In Singapore you can drink water from a tap. Additionally, we have a water purifier in the kitchen. So again - no need to buy plastic! The same thing is about disposable dishes. We love to do parties. But what we don't love is cheap shitty soft plastic disposable dishes which sometimes are used at those parties. So instead of them, we use wood or hard plastic dishes that can be washed after a party and be used again.
Branded clothes.
I don't feel like I need to show off. I have only one pair of Gucci shoes, but this one I brought for professional reasons - I needed to buy to flex on my Instagram. Just kidding. I don't see a point in spending $1000 on shoes. I would rather invest it like a Singaporean or spend on travel.
I don't buy anything on sale.
I work in marketing and know that the "special" days for sales, in most cases, are just an excellent hook for companies to sell out a lot of stock using people's habits to buy on these dates. Also very often the price has no real discount. They increase the "normal" price specifically for these days to create scarcity. And don't get me wrong. Business and marketers do their job. It's just you as a consumer shouldn't fall into this trap buying things that you don't really need.
Artificial plants and artificial Xmas trees.
I don't see the point of having a plastic Xmas tree, it only looks like it, but there is no feeling, no smell, which creates a much better sense of Xmas celebration. And I don't mind picking up needles from the floor after. Same with artificial plants at home. Why do you need fake plants? A plastic plant cannot absorb CO2 from the air in your room:)
Car.
I don't buy cars anymore. And not because I don't have money for it living in Singapore. I had only one car in my life. That was Megane Coupe, which I owned living in Moscow 10 years ago. Now I would instead rent different models for the driving experience or just take a taxi. It's cheaper, more convenient and you don't need to think about parking.
Typical tourist tours.
It's bland and usually overpriced. Instead of that, if I travel to a new place, I find locals who can advise exactly where to go and what to see. I want to do what locals do. That gives so much better perspective about the place compared to standard touristic attractions.
So tell me in the comment section below if your life is full of things or not. See ya!
