I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to purchase several different fig cuttings from Figaholics. The cuttings were beautiful specimens and I was excited to propagate them.
I started these cuttings on February 4, 2021 and filmed this update on February 28, 2021. Although it was only 24 days worth of progress, there were several changes happening.
One thing I didn’t get to record on camera was the amount of figs that these cuttings tried to produce. Before they had roots or leaves they wanted to put out fruit. I learned my lesson from the first fig prolongation round I did back in December and took all the figlets off as soon as they started to emerge. This allowed the cutting to focus it’s energy on roots and leaves.
Most if not all of the cutting had either leafs or roots or both. I’ve learned not to get my hopes up at the sight of leaves and instead wait for roots to emerge. When the roots are visible, I know the cutting is heading in the right direction. For this propagation I used the fig pop method.
Since filming this video, I have made some drastic changes to the figs that were unexpected but necessary(in my opinion). I will upload that video as soon as I finish editing it. For now, thank you for joining me on this gardening journey!
