Hi, this is episode number 9 in the Perio Patient Podcast (PPP) and I'm Ben Young. The last time I left you with the idea of cementum that was the last word cementum and it comes out of my explanation. What is periodontal disease and that a tooth has just four parts the four parts are enamel dentin pulp which everybody knows or pretty much everyone knows. It's the fourth part of a tooth that's important when we're talking about periodontal disease and it's given the name cementum and it cements or holds something to the root of this tooth that directs of in all directions these little fibers that attach the tooth to the bone. I make a big deal of this because without this understanding we get in our minds a wrong image of what's going on and this is important because it explains how.
