Measuring Light
Lumen- a measure of the total quantity of visible light emitted by a source
*This has greater ties to the human visible spectrum
“Lumens are for Humans”
PAR (Photosynthetic Active Radiation)- Measures the amount of light (400-700nm) a plant needs to grow.
PPF (Photosynthetic Photon Flux)- How many photons are being released from a light source every second.
PPFD (Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density)- How many photons are hitting your plant.
Measuring Light with PAR Meters you want to allow bulbs time to warm-up, so allow at least 5 min. before doing any light intensity readings.
