STORYLINE:
Early on Tuesday, a huge, glistening tuna was auctioned for about 14 million Japanese yen (about 118000 US dollars) at Tokyo’s 80-year-old Tsukiji fish market.
But this marks the last time the new year's auction is held at the historic site and the end to an era.
If all goes as planned, the world’s biggest and most famous fish and seafood market will move in November to a massive new complex further south in Tokyo Bay.
The winning bidder of this year’s 200-kilogramme tuna was sushi restaurateur Kiyoshi Kimura, who has prevailed in most of the recent new year auctions.
