From time to time, Karl Fischer generator #electrodes require cleaning, as decomposition products of the titration reaction can contaminate the generator electrode. Cleaning with concentrated nitric acid can remove such contaminants. This video shows the procedure for a generator electrode with diaphragm. For a generator electrode without diaphragm, immerse the electrode in concentrated nitric acid after covering the connections. Do not forget to rinse the electrode well with deionized water and methanol afterwards.
