The Escanaba & Lake Superior Railroad (E&LS) is a privately owned shortline railroad company headquartered in Wells, MI operating in Northeastern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Under current ownership, the E&LS has expanded from the original core line of 65 miles that was purchased in 1978, to over 235 miles of operating railroad in 2005.
"The old EMD FR7's were built in 1949 and are from the Wisconsin and Calumet Railroad after being stored in Janesville by WSOR for long time. They were used on a tourist train that ran in Walworth in the 80's. The numbers were given 106 and 901 because the had 4 number boards from an old GP9. So since they only needed 2 per loco they flipped one set over."
