No representative of Afghanistan or Myanmar will speak during the General Debate of the UN General Assembly after speakers from both countries withdrew from their assigned slots. Myanmar's Ambassador to the UN , a holdover from the civilian government overthrown in a military coup earlier this year, withdrew from his slot Monday after a deal was reached for him to remain in Myanmar's seat - for the moment - as long as he didn't speak during the General Debate. A competing claim from the Taliban for speaking rights saw Afghanistan's Ambassador, representing the ousted government, also withdraw.
