In Chester,  the charity Ready Generations is working alongside the Shirley Chisholm Institute in New York, Live Cheshire and HealthBox to celebrate the 100th Birthday of civil rights activist and social justice champion, Shirley Chisholm who would have been 100 on the 30th November. One of Shirley's most well known quotes  is:

                                                                 'If they don't give you a seat at the table, bring in a folding chair'

Through the Whose Truth Travels project local Chester charitable groups, schools and early years settings have come together to design and  make chairs that represent their unique community stories and extend Chisholm's legacy far beyond the borders of the United States.

 Her pioneering efforts have inspired countless individuals around the world to challenge the status quo and fight for equality and justice. In many countries, Chisholm's story is a beacon of hope for marginalized communities striving for representation and empowerment. Her work resonates with global movements advocating for women's rights, racial equality, and social justice. Chisholm's influence can be seen in the rise of female and minority leaders in politics and other fields, who continue to draw inspiration from her courage and determination.
