Military police in Naples deployed drones to monitor citizens who were outside and not staying indoors on Wednesday as Italy ramps up measures to try and contain the spread of the novel coronavirus and urge people to obey the lockdown rules.
The Italian government hiked fines for people who defy a lockdown order and anyone caught leaving their home without good reason will now face fines of between 400 euros to 3,000 euros ($430 to $3,227 USD) against a previous 206 euros.
Italy has seen more fatalities than any other country, with the latest figures showing that 6,820 people have died from the infection in barely a month.
