The State Circus Park is a park in Bucharest, Sector 2, inside it is located the State Circus in Bucharest. The park was arranged in 1961, on an area of 26 ha, according to the plans of the architect Valentin Donose [1].
In the middle of the park is the "Lake with natural springs", with an almost round shape in plan and with an area of 0.75 ha, next to the shore of which grow Egyptian lotuses (Nelumbo nucifera) / (Nymphea lotus), a flower declared a monument of nature in 1931. This rare plant has a stage of vegetation that begins in the spring, grows rapidly covering the summer waters of the lake with large leaves and beautifully colored flowers. [2]
Another attraction of the lake is the European water turtle (Emys orbicularis), which is not known how it got here, but which has multiplied considerably. [3]
Herpetofauna is represented by three species of amphibians and three species of reptiles.
In recent years, the water level of the lake with pink lotuses has dropped dramatically, severely affecting local wildlife (fish, wild ducks, turtles, etc.). The causes of the lake's water level are uncertain, but it could be clogging the lake with debris and clay or it could be due to more difficult access to the groundwater due to drought. [4]
