Many outside of Scouting don't know why we would volunteer our time to be adult leaders. We believe in helping young people discover Scouting Values and incorporate them into their life choices. There are many rewards in helping young people instill Scouting Values of the Scout Oath & Law into their lives. It is amazing how many Scout Leaders find reward in all of the wonderful discoveries of Scout Skills. Scout Leaders often adopt these into their own lives and live by the example. Scout Leaders find a greater meaning by planting the acorn of Scouting for a brighter and greater future.

🔑 Show Notes: This is the only volunteer job that is changing the world of young people for the good.
“The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.”
“Changing the world, one Scout at a time.”
Scout leaders have an opportunity to witness the instilling of Scouting values.
• When the SPL starts running their troop.
• The unit pulling together for a common goal.
• Using the EDGE method without thinking about it.
• Using the Scout Oath/Promos without realizing it.
• Incorporating the Scout law into their daily lives and challenges.
Scouting helps make better people.
The adult leader gets the benefit of Scouting values. Many adult leaders were not scouts in their youth.
A trained adult leader is a better citizen of their community.
Most of the training has real-world benefits for employees and employers.
Be the example and not the exception.
There’s a legend about a chapel that was constructed in the 1300s. The roof was supported by huge beams fashioned from old-growth oak. 700 years later, the beams had deteriorated and the roof was in danger of collapsing. The building required renovations and the ceiling beams needed to be replaced. Where could they find giant oak trees like those that had been used by the original builders? The answer lay right outside the chapel door. The original builders of the chapel had anticipated that at some point, the structure would need new oak beams, so they planted acorns around the chapel grounds. Several hundred years later, these acorns had matured into trees that could be used for repairs. What’s your vision for the future? What acorns are you planting today?
