Part 1 of my trip to Sakaerat Environmental Research Station. This was the most enriching, off-the-beaten-path experience I had in Thailand. I learned about many snakes in Thailand, the reptile research being done at the station, snake safety (how to respect snakes), the importance of community awareness of snakes, and much more. My favorite part of the first day was the wildlife radio tracking that we did. While tracking snakes we tracked King Cobras, one of the most symbolic and famous species of snake in the world. It was also fascinating learning about how ecosystems are impacted by the wellbeing of the King Cobra. For example, if King Cobra numbers go down, a trophic cascade can result.
I hope that by watching this video you will be inspired to travel to places in nature that are off-the-beaten path, explore nature, and do something that no one else would think of.
