I'm Dr. Leigh Ann Lather. I'm a pediatric orthopedic specialist at UVA. I first became interested in medicine when I was in college. I think some part of me had always been interested in human physiology. I loved all kinds of biology, and I just felt like being a doctor was who I was, not just what I do, but who I am.
I see children of all ages from newborns up to age 18 for any kind of orthopedic problem. I see a lot of children with broken bones, but then I also am really passionate about taking care of children with club feet and children with hip dysplasia.
Regardless of what a patient comes to see me for, when you come to my clinic as a new patient, what you can expect is that, if your doctor has referred you, I will have received information. But I'll start all over at the beginning and ask a lot of questions about what you're worried about, and then I'll do a careful exam and then we'll talk about what the options are.
When my daughter had an orthopedic problem, I wanted to take her to the doctor who knew the most about it, and that's what I think you get when you bring your child to UVA Children's Hospital. You're going to see a physician and a nursing team that's at the top of their field, is up to date and will treat you with the respect and compassion that your family deserves.
