Ande Norton began what became a Sword & Sorcery Community by writing the book Witch World in 1961 or so. And it is a good book, well worth reading although a few other series have rather supplanted it. (Notably Terry Pratchett's and the Dragon series by Dickinson with the Accounting Department.) You have the Quest. The eternal good versus evil and politics along with the various ethnic mixes and national rivalries. Good meaty stuff written in support of young barely teenage males. Nothing too much "in your face", of course. I recommend reading the 1st in the series and perhaps the second before deciding upon including it in your library or not.
