✓ Paan has been eaten in India from the ancient Vedic times. Paan and Pan Walla's are ubiquitous in the Indian Sub-continent and can be found on nearly every street corner in India.
According to Ayurvedic science, betel leaf or paan can be useful in the curing of ailments such as a cough, cold and headaches. It is also said that eating paan freshens the breath and increases passion........if you know what I mean;-)
It is chewed for its stimulant and psychoactive effects, It can act as a digestiv (aiding digestion), can freshen your mouth and it will highly likely refresh you after a heavy meal.
The actual Paan itself consists of a betel leaf wrapped in a triangular or roll shape with a mixture of spices, mukhwas, dried fruits, and sugar.
On this visit I had a sweet Pan choosing specific filling from the following fillings recipe options selection:

This is one of Leicester's Golden Mile's "Secret Desi places" (the Golden Mile stretches from Belgrave Road all the way up to Melton Road) call it Leicester's "little India" if you wish.
This is another video from our recent week long foodie motivated visit we made to Leicester (in Oct 2018) especially to record some of the most famous and popular food places there (some established many decades ago when East African Asians arrived in the UK having fled the Idi Amin regime) some of the East Africa Asians settled in the streets in and around the Belgrave road and Melton Road area (a stretch of road affectionately known as the " Golden Mile").
Most if not all of the restaurants and shops here are very homely and welcoming and it does not feel like you are eating in an unfamiliar café or restaurant but more like eating at a friend or relatives place.
As this is a Paan video you may be interested in watching a video that I recorded in India last year where a regular paan is prepared and then it is set alight by the Paan Wallah to be eaten straight away, here's the link to that video: [ Ссылка ] (which is titled: WOW!!! FIRE PAAN!!! Amazing Indian Street Food Mouth Freshener, Natraj Market, Station Road, Mumbai.)
