Syl Johnson is an American blues and soul singer and record producer.
He started playing/singing in mid 1950s, before recording with Jimmy Reed for Vee-Jay in 1959.
Proclamed the most sampled artist of all time, he released the groundbreaking black concept LP "Is It Because I’m Black?", Syl delivered a bracing, inspiring, and politically charged R&B document.
