LEADIN:
A collection of animal sanctuaries around Lviv in western Ukraine is sheltering animals rescued from the frontlines of Russia's invasion.
STORYLINE:
The Home of Rescued Animals in Lviv (Domivka) is a charitable organization that rescues and rehabilitates wild and domestic animals.
With the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, abandoned pets also began arriving here.
Just a year after, "Domivka" had taken in around 6,000 animals.
Some of them found new homes abroad, others were settled elsewhere in Ukraine.
"Most of the cats from the Kherson region have already been settled," says volunteer, Anastasia Muntianova.
"But nevertheless, there are still other cats living here, who were also evacuated from the east and from other cities where active hostilities are taking place."
Workers and volunteers from the organization went on an expedition to rescue animals from the Kherson region following the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam in June earlier this year.
Oksana Shapovalova and her husband both fled Russian forces from their native town of Nova Kakhovka in Kherson.
They now both volunteer here.
